"Across the Andes" - Arrival day

¡Bienvenidos a Chile!

. . . and the Adventure begins!

Today is all about traveling, eating and just
relaxing. You'll arrive into Santiago Airport
(SCL) after flying all night and immediately
be greeted by the MBA staff with helping
hands, hot coffee, fresh fuit and beverages

Santiago Airport (SCL)
While you're relaxing we'll be loading the vehicles and getting ready for the trip to the south. While we could have easily flown south, the drive will be our only real chance to see the Chilean landscape between Santiago and Chillan. And included in the drive will be a relaxing lunch at a private residence 45 minutes south of the airport. The total trip is about 500km (300 miles) & our ETA into Pinto is usually about 6:30pm

Lunch at Javier's
We usually arrive to javier's place at noon. Here we'll relax in their garden with the chickens and roosters and eat a homemade Chilean "almuerzo". But before we start lunch we have to hoist a Pisco Sour and toast being in Chile! After a couple of hours we load up again and head for Pinto!
¡Salud! Welcome to Chile, and my home!
The Food . . .

Chilean foods can be very localized. In the Andes and away from the from coast, the foods consist of lots of meats, soups, empanadas, corn loafs, ensaladas, the best breads in the world, and of course their famous wines. On the coast the foods are much more seafood based. And for those who are vegitarian, preparing vegitarian meals is not usually a problem.

Arriving at the start line . . .
Pinto, Chile
Pinto is our starting point for the south course. We usually arrive between 6pm and 7pm to a chorus of Chilean folk singers and more food! After a warm welcome we will check into our cabanas, freshen up and then get ready for another feast with live music and perhaps even a bit of dancing. The following morning we will say goodbye to Pinto and head off into the Andes mountains on our bikes.
